Love (III) by George Herbert
Love bade me welcome, yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-ey’d Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning
If I lack’d anything.
“A guest,” I answer’d, “worthy to be here”;
Love said, “You shall be he.”
“I, the unkind, the ungrateful? ah my dear,
I cannot look on thee.”
Love took my hand and smiling did reply,
“Who made the eyes but I?”
“Truth, Lord, but I have marr’d them; let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.”
“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”
“My dear, then I will serve.”
“You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat.”
So I did sit and eat.

We miss your dancing, Yori!
Exit Dance Theatre, a modern dance company based in Newburyport, Massachusetts, was founded in 1987 by Susan Atwood, Fontaine Dollas, Cheryl Fisher, Stephen Haley and Linda Lazzaro. Exit’s style is deeply rooted in theater techniques, improvisation and collaboration. Founding members wanted the movement to open up beyond traditional styles in order to explore the limitless range of possibilities through the body not the head; through imagining not thinking.
Exit Dance Theatre, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is based at The Dance Place in Newburyport, MA.
Your generous donations can now be tax deductible! Sponsors are needed to expand the company’s touring schedule.
This program is supported in part by a generous grant from Friendship Foundation, a grant from the Newburyport Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and by The Dance Place.
